Additionally, the following scenarios will also require a paper application:

  • You have been previously licensed in Idaho for the license type for which you are currently applying. You can try to apply electronically, but it may tell you on the last screen that it has been rejected.
  • You have cancelled your license via a Voluntary Surrender.

The following is a list of additional information regarding Producer Licensing:

  • Non-Citizens: Residents must fax a copy of valid work authorization or green card.
  • Surplus Lines: Residents must hold a Producer License with the Property and Casualty lines of authority for a minimum of two (2) years before applying for the Surplus Lines license. Non-Residents may apply for and hold a Surplus Lines license without the Producer Property and Casualty license. However, please note that Idaho is a diligent search state. Surplus Lines Brokers must attempt to place a potential surplus lines policy with a minimum of three admitted carriers before it can be placed with an eligible Surplus Lines insurer—unless the policy is listed on our export list. Not carrying the Property and Casualty Producer license in addition to this license limits ability to place only Surplus Lines business in Idaho and will require you to utilize an Idaho-licensed producer for Property and Casualty for any business requiring diligent search.
  • Bail Agents: All Bail agents must forward an original $15,000 bond and appointment from a Surety company with application.
  • Limited Lines Producers: Residents must submit the Limited Lines Attestation Page, including a signature.
  • Public Adjusters: All Public Adjusters must forward an original $20,000 bond or Irrevocable Letter of Credit in the amount of $20,000.
  • Agencies or Business Entities: All applicants must be a legal business type. Examples include: Partnership, Limited Liability Company (LLC), Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), Corporation (INC). We do not license Sole Proprietors as an agency.
  • All License Types: If you answered “yes” to any of the background questions, please be sure to attach your documentation to the application, upload them into the NIPR Attachment Warehouse, or send them to us at the address below. Be sure to include your explanation of the events.

If sending information to the Department of Insurance, please include proper identifying information such as an NPN, transaction ID, FEIN, etc. and note as to why you are sending this information.
