This week's volunteer spotlight shines on Shirley M McCarty
who is involved with the SHIBA program as PAP and Outreach.
During an illuminating career with billing Medicare and Medicaid, Shelly saw the need for regular folks to understand how Medicare is used and began going to SHIBA and other networking meetings. She moved to the Coeur dAlene area and introduced herself to the local office where she was immediately put to work volunteering throughout Kootenai County. Being a vital source of imformation, she later became a SHIBA staff coordinator. When ending that role, she very graciously agreed to continue to offer her skills, experience, and knowledge of local resources to Kootenai County.
Every month Shelly is at senior centers, pharmacies, doctor's offices, health fairs, church groups, and a ton of other places bringing the SHIBA message and experience to the street. Her daughter, Katrina, is also a frequent helper who adds an extra human touch to the folks they reach.
Shelly has lived the impact of Medicare on her own daughter's life and has the heart to bring all assistance programs to the table when helping people.
